As a fan of the guitar work of Blixa Bargeld with The Bad Seeds in the 80's, 90's and early 00's, I decided to get a Mustang in hopes of getting a bit of that experience for myself.
It is the only Mustang, close enough to the vintage specs, that Fender is still making today.
Looks, sound, setup, all great. No complaints there.
BUT! This is a 1000Euro guitar and the fretboard is a horror show!
The specs say it should be rosewood. I don't know what this is but it's not rosewood. I have a 2010 Fender Mustang Bass with a rosewood fretboard and this is 100% something else.
Coarse and rough as hell, insanely dry YET impermeable to fretboard oil, light colored, by far the worst fretboard I have ever seen on any guitar I have owned or just played. I've been playing since 1995 and I've owned or just played at least 100 different guitars in this time.
Even more crazy is that the fretwork is great, the frets themselves are smooth and dressed very well.
I don't think I've ever seen firewood as bad as this piece of 1000 euro Fender fretboard.
Oh, and for full fairness it was also missing the string tree riser ring, which I've experienced often with mexican Fenders.
