The compact mixing desks in Yamaha's MG series have been enjoying great popularity for many years, not only showcasing the manufacturer’s experience in professional consoles with their excellent processing quality but also with an extraordinarily high-quality sound for the price bracket. In the third generation of the mixer series, Yamaha has now packed even more features into its compact consoles which, in addition to an extensive range of connection options and a built-in effects section, now enable the Yamaha MG20 XU to offer USB connection to a computer and to act as an interface with two input and output channels.

Équipement complet

La MG20 XU inclut au sein de sa coque en métal 12 canaux mono qui disposent chacun de prises hybrides XLR/jack, d’excellents préamplis micro, d’un filtre passe-haut et d’un égaliseur à trois bandes, avec réglage semi-paramétrique pour les médiums. Les huit premiers canaux disposent en plus d’un compresseur « à un bouton » particulièrement facile à utiliser. Les canaux 13/14 et 15/16 peuvent être utilisés au choix comme entrée micro ou comme entrée ligne stéréo grâce aux deux prises jack. Grâce à l’alimentation fantôme, on pourra utiliser sans problème des microphones à condensateur ou des boîtes de direct actives sur l’ensemble des canaux. La console dispose également de deux canaux stéréo pour les signaux ligne équipés de prises RCA. Lorsqu’on utilise la console comme une interface audio-USB, le canal 19/20 peut être employé comme entrée pour le signal de l’ordinateur.

On peut imaginer que les concepteurs de la MG20 XU ont eu avant tout à l’esprit les besoins des groupes de petite taille, car un certain nombre de fonctions qui équipent cette console semblent taillées pour ce genre de public-cible. Le processeur d’effets interne inclut 24 presets de haute qualité : non seulement des réverbes, mais également des effets spéciaux ou de modulation. Cette section peut être activée ou désactivée à volonté grâce à une pédale. La console propose également deux sous-groupes et trois chemins auxiliaires pour réaliser par exemple un mixage de retours scène. La richesse de la connectique s’exprime également au niveau des sorties. Le master stéréo par exemple dispose à la fois de prises XLR et de prises jack.

The built-in USB interface works with a resolution of up to 192kHz/24 bit, providing a level of audio quality that more than satisfies professional requirements. The sophisticated routing options of the return channel also provide the perfect foundation for users. The mixer features an additional monitor bar, complete with dedicated master control and output jacks, and comes with an entry-level version of Cubase, enabling users to hit the ground running. There is even the option to connect the mixer to an iPad (from version 2) if required, together with the Apple Camera Connection Kit.
