One rack space, countless possibilities

The Dangerous Music D-Box+ is a combined summing and monitoring system that packs a cutting-edge feature set into a single rack space. This model expands on the design of its silver-coloured predecessor with a redesigned eight-channel summing section as well as a D/A stereo converter, and new features such as Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well as a digital volume control with a precise "Equal Loudness Contour" function make for greater flexibility and ease of use, enhanced still further by the option of remotely controlling all of the device's functions via a dedicated app that is available free of charge for a range of operating systems. Of the functions made available via app, the option to use a smartphone as a talkback microphone is particularly noteworthy.

Routing par excellence

A total of five input source types - analogue, sum, Bluetooth, USB, and AES/SPDIF - can be selected at the touch of a button (combinations are also possible) and assigned to two fully independent monitoring options - Control Room and Headphones - allowing the user to seamlessly switch between sources if required. The Dangerous Music D-Box+ features three stereo speaker outputs with a programmable True Mono function, and the third of these outputs can also be used as an independent subwoofer source with individual level adjustment and mute functions. What is more, the D-Box+ also comes complete with two high-performance headphone amplifiers that have independent volume controls for the monitoring and cue sections. 6.3mm headphone outputs are provided on both the front and rear panels and can even be used simultaneously.

More flexibility than ever before

The Dangerous Music D-Box+ is the ideal choice for professional users who value flexible routing and monitoring functions. In addition to its compatibility with analogue input sources, it is also equipped with three digital interfaces - Bluetooth, AES, and USB - which make this a very flexible solution. All digital signals are also routed through the newly developed DACs and thus benefit from high-quality conversion, and the interfaces can be used simultaneously by virtue of the fact that each one has its own DAC. Users can also stream music from a streaming app to the main monitors for reference purposes using their smartphone, use the Dangerous Music D-Box+ as an audio interface, or combine it with other devices without significant hassle.

About Dangerous Music

US company Dangerous Music Inc. has its headquarters in New York and has been a firm fixture in the audio industry since the commercial launch of its "Dangerous 2-BUS" summing amplifier in 2001. Since the company was established, its co-founder Bob Muller, product designer Chris Muth, and the Dangerous Music team - driven by the idea of solving the problems inherent to so-called "hybrid studios" - have been developing audio equipment that is specifically designed to profitably harness the potential benefits of digital technology in harmony with the analogue world.

Eight channels of analogue summing

The Dangerous Music D-Box+ houses an eight-channel summing section which uses the Tascam D-sub connection on the rear of the device, in addition to which channels 7 and 8 can be operated in mono (activated using the corresponding button on the front panel). The summing section can significantly improve the signal in terms of panorama, depth, and sound quality when used correctly and will satisfy even the most demanding users - which a glance at the data sheet, containing only the actual measured values, will quickly confirm. With a crosstalk value of -114dB between the left and right channels, a linear frequency response of 0.1dB between 10Hz and 50kHz, and a distortion factor of 0.0019%, users can certainly look forward to high-quality sum signals.

In the spotlight: Remote control via the D-Box+ app

The D-Box+ app is available free of charge and allows the user to control all of the device's basic functions via iOS, MacOS, Android, and Windows. All of the essential settings, including volume adjustment, source selection, activation of the onboard talkback microphone, and more can all be made using a suitable mobile or desktop device. Selected functions and changes made to the settings are then displayed on the device and in the app, and a practical bonus is that the user can also use their mobile device as a talkback microphone. In this case, the talkback signal is transmitted to the talkback section of the Dangerous Music D-Box+ via Bluetooth, and the function enables people in the mixing room to communicate with the artists without needing to be in direct proximity to the D-Box+.
