My first Bass was Jolana Diamant, short scaled made in Czechoslovakia. And then after decades of years and dosens of long scaled P-Basses and JBs I was still missing that meaty deep sound and vibration of strings on short scale neck.
And then I've got back pain because of long playing standing, and leg pain after long playing sitting with heavy Instrument on.
Now I didn't just want small bass, I needed it!
I tried Höfner Shorty, and, frankly saying, was not admired. Mustang-like Basses - well, I already got some JB and P-Basses with same Pickups. And than I remembered, that I once tried Epiphone EB-3 and saw the short scaled and smaller version - and here we are!
It came surprisingly (especially after experience with Höfner) well serviced and fully ready for playing. I only needed some lemon oil for dry fretboard and string conditioner - however, my fingers still get dirty after practice. If it will continue, I'd probably change the strings, despite the fact I like how they sound and feel. As I understand, it can be D'daddario or Ernie Ball.
Some say, that for "real original sound" you shall use flatwounds - that's doubtful, because this big Vintage Humbucker - it makes all the sound, muddy and a bit distorted when you turn Tone button down. That's why you need regular strings here to add some brightness as Contrabalance. And Flatwounds are good on Precision or Vintage Jazz Bass.
By the way, strings were definitely not shorts, they look like normal cut long scales, and also have not those red stripes as seen on Item Fotos. Logo is also absent on trass rod cover plate, it is empty - and actually I like it more than with this big E on Item Foto.
Otherwise it is normal bass, now one of my favourites. I even ordered original Epiphone Case to store it - together they look really fabulous!
