I like the Sound and Design of Vox, when I bought my Amplug 2 several years ago. it was total mind blow - full range of amp options in small box and of course drum machine on board.
But then, after so many years all that they added is ... Overdrive and very poor set of ambients, that sound ok, but does not give you too much space - only more/less effects. I still like the Sound, Design and drums, but, frankly speeking, they could do it more functional - we all know that it is was already possible when they ptoduced Vox Amplug 2 - just check Blackstar. Not telling, that Vox have special model for every guitar style - that numerous Blues/Rock and even Brian May guitar models. That's why I was not confused when I found out there is one more Bass Amplug 3 model - Modern Bass - and they just put there Distortion instead of Overdrive :)
However, the Advantage of this Basic Bass 3 model is that it is easy compatible with almost all types of external pedals - you don't need Compressor, cause it is already on, but have much fun combining different Drives, Distortions, Fuzzes, with/without Preamps, and even Ambients (you can combine it with built in Ambients or turn them off, what is not allowed on Modern Bass model) - I like the sound of Vintage 2 Knob Chorus with this Amplug. Metal Distortion or Fuzz Sound also great, especially with Overdrive Channel.
That's how I use it - as a full range Headphone Amp to play with my Pedals.
And as a self-sufficient I use Modern Bass Model - however it has no Clean Channel, but great full range Distortion and more tasty and valueble Ambients.
Vox stays Vox 😅
Rock you🤘
