Innovative multi-track recorder

The Tascam Portacapture X8 is an immensely versatile field recorder designed for high-quality audio capture, featuring two detachable condenser microphones that can be arranged in either AB or XY configurations, while four XLR combo jacks provide additional connections for microphones and instruments. The recorder is capable of handling up to six simultaneous channels along with an optional stereo mix, and thanks to its USB connector, it can also function as an audio interface with eight inputs and two outputs when connected to a computer. Operation is straightforward via a colour LCD touchscreen that ensures an intuitive workflow, and with six dedicated recording apps available, the Portacapture X8 is equally at home producing podcasts, capturing music, or creating atmospheric soundscapes for film and game productions.

Easy operation with apps

The Portacapture X8 is controlled via its 3.5" colour LCD touchscreen, making operation intuitive and straightforward, while six dedicated apps allow for quick and spontaneous recordings, with the 'Manual' app offering full flexibility for individual or multi-track recordings of up to six channels. For interviews, the 'Voice' app provides a simple, tailored setup, and the podcast app is perfect for podcasts with up to four participants, while the 'Music' app gives a clear overview of all connected instruments and quick access to the internal reverb effect with six selectable room settings. Tascam's proprietary HDDA microphone preamps handle the XLR/TRS inputs to deliver high-quality recordings at up to 32-bit and 192 kHz, and the built-in mixer allows further refinement with a compressor, limiter, and low-pass filter to ensure every recording sounds its best.

Flexible recording control

The Portacapture X8 is designed for content creators and filmmakers seeking a flexible, easy-to-use solution for high-quality recordings, with 48V phantom power available for condenser microphones connected to the XLR/TRS inputs. The device also provides convenient recording control functions, such as the ability to start recording automatically when a set threshold is exceeded, and if the recorder is positioned in a hard-to-reach spot, it can be conveniently controlled via smartphone using the optional AK-BT1 Bluetooth adapter. Power is supplied either by the four included AA batteries, the USB connection, or the optional PS-P520U power supply, making the Portacapture X8 versatile enough for any recording situation.

About Tascam

Tascam started out in 1971 as Teac Corporation's distributor of professional audio equipment. The name is the acronym of Teac Audio System Company of America. Tascam was a great innovator on the market and pioneered leading technologies of the time, such as multitrack tape and cassette recorders, digital multitrack recorders (DTRS), digital mixing consoles, and so on. Today, Tascam supplies the entire sound industry with products for television and radio studios, recording studios, concert halls, conference rooms, academic institutions, commercial facilities, theatres, internet podcasters and broadcasters, music producers, and musicians.

Full synchronisation with video technology

The Portacapture X8 can be mounted directly on a DSLR camera or a simple microphone stand, and with the cold shoe adapter on the back, it can also be integrated into an AV rig. To help synchronise recordings with video, it emits a clap signal at the beginning and end of each take, while on the left-hand side, an external line input in mini-jack format allows recording of a camera pilot track and the adjacent line output sends the stereo sum of the Portacapture X8 directly to the camera, with the output level adjustable in the recorder’s menu. Also located on the left side is a headphone output, enabling convenient monitoring of recordings directly from the device.
